So I thought let's move into the 2nd year of blogging with a sweet!
I came across a Easy way to make gulab jamuns with non-fat milk powder in a foodie group called Home Chefs Guild in FB and i was so tempted to try it out and trust me guys the outcome was sooooo yum and soft! :)
Cooking time: 5-6 gulab jamuns per batch to deep fry for 5 mins
Makes 30.
Ingredients:
Milk powder - 1 cup
All purpose flour - 1/2 cup
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Baking soda - 1/2 tsp
Milk - 1/4 cup - more or less as needed to make the dough
For sugar syrup:
sugar - 1 1/2 cups - adjust to the desired sweetness
water - 2 cups
rose water - 1 tsp
elaichi powder - 1 tsp
Method:
- Take the milk powder, all purpose flour and baking soda in a bowl, Add ghee to it and mix well.
- Add milk little by little and make a dough. The dough will be very sticky. Knead it for a few minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a saucepan add sugar, water bring to a boil, keep stirring in between to dissolve the sugar and simmer for a few minutes. Turn the stove off.add elaichi powder.
- Now form small balls from the dough. roll them into smooth balls without any cracks.
- Heat oil and deep fry the balls. Add 5-6 balls at a time. The ball should stay in the base of the vessel for at least a minute before rising to the surface. Keep turning the balls to cook them evenly. It took around 5 - 6 minutes for a batch.
- Drain the balls and allow to cool for a few minutes before adding to the sugar syrup.
- Add the balls to the warm syrup and wait for at least an hour for the balls to absorb the syrup.
You can also garnish it with finely chopped almonds and pistachios!
