As this is ramadan time, I like to try out new dishes for iftar. i had little minced chicken in my freezer, i didn't want to make chicken samosas, And suddenly Momo idea struck me! :D Momos can have fillings of veggies, paneer or meat, as per one's preference. I made two varieties in this, steamed and Pan fried in store bought Schezwan sauce. Sounds Yum right!
Ingredients:
For Dough:
All purpose flour/Maida - 1 cup
Water - as needed
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt - 1 tsp
For Filling:
Minced Chicken - 1/2 kg
Onion - 2 very finely chopped.
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
Soy Sauce - 1 tsp
Green Chilly paste - 2 tsp
Pepper powder - 1 tsp
Tomato ketchup - 1 tbsp
Salt - 1/2 tsp
sugar - 1/4 tsp
Oil - 1 tbsp
For Pan fried version:
schezwan sauce - 3 tbsp [ I bought Chings schezwan sauce]
Oil - 1 tbsp
Method:
Mix maida, salt and oil in a bowl add adequate water and make a soft dough and keep it aside covered.
Wash the minced chicken and keep it aside, Heat oil in a frying pan, keep the flame on high heat now add ginger garlic paste and sautee for 1 min, add the finely chopped onions and cook further, after 2-3 mins add the chicken stir well.
Since it's on high flame Always keep an eye on it, Once the chicken is half cooked add soy sauce, Green chilly paste, pepper powder and tomato ketcup & mix well.
Since it's minced chicken it gets cooked fast, now add salt and sugar stir well, Switch it off once done. Stuffing ready!
Now the comes the important part!
Roll out the dough into a big round and it should be thin enough. now use a lid or a round cutter to cut out into small rounds.
Take a small rolled out round apply little water on the edges, Keep some filling and fold it and bring all the edges together to the center by making pleats, Pinch and twist the pleats to keep the stuffing secured.
I did mine in the rice cooker steamer basket, Heat the water in it & grease the rice steamer basket, carefully place them and close the lid and steam it for 10 - 15 mins.
Once done serve hot with sauce of your choice.
Now for the pan fried version:
Heat the pan on high heat and oil, and slowly place the steamed momo's and carefully turn sides to fry, now add the schezwan sauce [you can find this sauce in big supermarket such as nilgiris, spencers etc..] and stir further to coat the momo's.
Garnish with coriander and serve hot!
Note: You can see the below video for reference to give a style to your momo's! i found this in youtube. Enjoy!
